Lolita in Secret challenged me; Lolita Pet Peeves!

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on October 22, 2010 by dollpart

Fellow lolita blogger Lolita in Secret asked her fellow bloggers what is their top five pet peeves. Lolitas have plenty to be pissed off about and these are my pet peeves.

1. Black x White Co-ordinates = Instant Ita! Ha, hell no – Black and White co-ordinates were once a classic bench mark of the gothic lolita style and when done right can be elegant, sweet and classic. Just because a few beginners or cosplayers loose a thing or two in translation doesn’t mean that it doesn’t get better than that.

Blanco y Negro

An oldie but a goodie, I miss my short cute hair

2. All Lolitas Love Anime, Japanese Music and Manga. No we don’t, though I’ve read, listened and watched a few good ones it doesn’t hold my interest as much as Batman and the DC Universe does. I’m a huge Watchmen fan and I sometimes wear my Blood Drop Comedian pin with my Lolita dresses, I’m crazy about Metalocalypse which ties into my love of Metal and Goth Rock. Lolita is a loose affiliation with an aesthetic more than it is about mutual interest outside of your opinion on Angelic Pretty. Lolitas can be Otaku but we’re also Goths, Punks, Stoners, Hipsters and sick sad people who like Country and Western.

3. Petticoat Deflation. According to my dear friend Disa an all organza petticoat made of about a zillion yards worth of fabric will hold its poof indefinably  and is also machine washable. She’s made herself a prototype and I’m mad jelly, I’ve been making do with four deflated pettis Frankensteined into one plus another skirt under my dresses.

Drink Drink Drink

All this tom-foolery may be the cause, or cure?

4. Mini Top hats and in fact 99% of mini hats. This is mainly because 99% of them are not worn in a flattering way, from the wonky ita ones to the high end millinery ones. Its usually because people don’t know how to style their hair so it sits properly on their heads.

5. Unsolicited photographs. Especially if you’re a semi-pro photographer or might use our image for commercial gain – this is not on. Would you do the same to a stranger who you saw holding a bag you think is pretty? No and ninja phone photos are also not cool. Please respect the privacy concerns of others.

Loliweekend Log and Stats!

Huzzah! 80 000 hits!

Frills and an urge to Kill

Alice is Dead. Long Live Lolita

That’s just a very rough drawing I did in a book and hopefully will paint as a proper oil painting miniature. I like the visual of lolitas doing active things even if those things are violent as opposed to the passive, sit there and look pretty thing seen in most lolita drawings/art.

The first day of the Loli weekend was the big day meet there was a good turn out. Filming was a little different but we’re all very much used to being photographed and looked at especially when in a group. We met at King George Square where we were all interviewed as a group about people’s reactions to seeing us as a group, there was a parasol fight (to the death, Star Trek battle theme plays in background) purikura and drinks at Fat Louies to celebrate Suze’s birthday.

ROCK THE HELL OUT!

FOR THOSE ABOUT TO ROCK. WE SALUTE YOU.

I’m the one in the middle looking like a true chumpette – Outfit by Bodyline, Metamorphose, Enchantress and whatever I could find rolling around my bedroom floor.

Drink, Smoke and be Lolita

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on April 29, 2010 by dollpart

There is the pervasive myth on what the Western lolita “should” be – as in a code of behavior – which is prim, proper and passive. That Lolitas shouldn’t drink, smoke, swear or be jerks. I personally think that’s a load of bullshit because at the end of the day people in the lolita subculture are human. It’s a good thing usually to keep the profanities down to a minimum, keep your liver in tact so someone else could one day use it/eat it to gain your power and keep the tobacco smoke out of your expensive garments but fucked if I could be bothered really.

On Drinking
Chambord Liquer is pretty much the most lolita of all boozes, it’s even got a crown on it! Chambord is made from raspberries, blackberries, Madagascar vanilla, Moroccan citrus peel, honey and cognac and tastes great in cocktails. My personal favorite being lime juice, Chambord and lemonade and if you’re feeling extra blasphemous try the Blood of Christ cocktail, Chambord, Triple Sec, Grand Mariner and grenadine.

Chambord

The Loliest of all Boozes

For the beer drinkers, branch out and try some local or international brews, for the homebrewers out there I put to you a challenge – create Lolibrau – a beer for lolitas, by lolitas and now with even MOAR BOWS.

On Smoking
The latest trend right now is eCigarettes – battery powered cigarettes that vaporize nicotine into vapour with no tar or smoke – you can smoke those bad boys anywhere and come in a variety of flavours. For the tradiontional smoker who wants to colour co-ordinate I’d recommend Fantasias, Sobranie Coctails and Black Russians.

Fantasias

Fantasias

Sobraine is one of the oldest cigarette companies in the world and also make a rainbow coloured ciagrette known as Sobraine Coctails as well as the distinctive Black Russians which have a black paper covering.

Sorbaine Cocktails

Sorbaine Cocktails - and you thought AP was way pastel

I like the occasional Clove for the taste, Black Devils too when Sobranies are not in the budget but for the most part I stick to Marlboro Reds and Benson and Hedges Classic.

We all have vices, at the very least you can get your vices to match your hand bag and never apologize for having flair or taste ladies.

Subculture Sides: Lolitas in Brisbane

One of our favorite and talented photographer friends Faith Thiang‘s photographs of her local lolita group (Brisbane Represent *gang signs*) in a slide show event focusing on subcultures, Thursday on the 8th of April at the Australian Center for Photography in Sydney.

As far as the Brisbane Lolitas go, we’re a varied group as there ever was, sweets, gothic lolitas and classic styles, ages between 15 to late 30s, all walks of life, heights, weights, genders and ethnicity brought together initially by the fashion. Now were a huge friends circle, we like to drink, listen to all sorts of music (and sing bawdy songs about Star Trek while drinking), help each other out and have a good time.

We’re creative, interesting, beautiful people – who wouldn’t wanna be a part of something this awesome? I met my best friend in the whole world through lolita, I have been to some amazing parties and given input and participated in some fantastic art works and projects. Our meet culture is pretty relaxed and though we’re told were’ kinda intimidating we’re always welcoming fresh blood into the mix. There’s never a dull moment when the Brisbane lolitas assemble!

We recently had a large meet up, over 20 people there swamping French Twist – a local French patisserie/cafe – the very talented Goldie / vysanthe took photos that day – here’s one of my favorites with Gabby / pretty_melodies and myself:
